First Half
The Australian team, led by Cohadzic, entered the field very calmly and without any desire to win, simply managing their energy. In their last game, they even rested several starters, including the captain. However, in this match, the team showed itself to be more competitive, playing against the home team, which was under pressure to win to stay in the qualifying zone. It was precisely against them, to the delight of the fans in the packed National Stadium in Honiara, that Javin Wae opened the scoring in stoppage time.
Second Half
In the second half, the team coached by Englishman Ben Cahn adopted a more reactive posture, seeking fast and dangerous counter-attacks. It didn't even resemble the team that had lost 5-0 to the Australians 15 days earlier. Higashide and Leai tried to increase the score but were stopped by the South Melbourne goalkeeper. Then, in stoppage time of the second half, Charlie Leech equalized the game, much to the dismay of the stadium full of enthusiastic fans.
Standings and next round
The Solomon Islands team remains in the playoff zone but 2 points ahead of fifth place and now faces Tahiti United in Circuit 5 in April, while the runner-up faces Auckland FC in the derby.
