First Half
The first half in Port Moresby was quite eventful, with both teams seeking victory and chasing a playoff spot. In the 27th minute, New Caledonia national team player G. Haewegene opened the scoring for Tahiti, but in the 38th minute, Vanuatu United were awarded a penalty, which New Zealander Owen Smith converted to equalize the game, thus ending the first half.
Second Half
The second half promised great excitement and exciting plays, with both teams well-organized tactically, especially Vanuatu United, with German coach Lars Hopp bringing that European tactical culture to Oceania. Early in the second half, in the 56th minute, Teaonui Tehau, the star of the Tahitian national team, put the Tahitians ahead. However, shortly after, in the 58th minute, American William Cardona equalized, thus ending a match that was expected to be balanced.
