Auckland FC came into this match as heavy favorites after winning their first-round game, while Vanuatu United are still in the building phase and drew their opening match against Bula FC.
The match started with a lot of pressure from the home team at Eden Park, resulting in an early goal in the 8th minute by Luka Vicelich. The A-League team continued to press and scored a second goal in the 20th minute through their sensational new signing, Emiliano Tade.
The second half began with the new Vanuatu team playing more freely and looking for a goal, which they achieved in the 51st minute through Jordy Tasip, igniting the game and giving hope to the visitors. However, in the 69th minute, Matt Ellis sealed the victory for the favorites.
The team from the New Zealand capital is on track for the title and a spot in the Intercontinental Cup in December, while debutant Vanuatu United will continue its team-building process.
