First Half
The first half in Port Moresby, with Hekari United supported by their fans, began as expected, with Auckland FC, the league leaders and favorites, dominating possession while Hekari, despite being bottom of the table and playing at home, focused on counter-attacks. The first half ended in a draw.
Second Half
The second half started a bit more intensely, with both teams taking more risks. Auckland FC, led by Luke Casserly, maintained strong pressure, particularly in the air, while Hekari relied on the speed of their attackers. However, it was Hekari who managed to open the scoring in the dying moments, and the Papua New Guinea team was achieving what no one else in the tournament had managed: taking points from Auckland FC. But in stoppage time, young Ferguson opened the scoring, and there was still time for the legend Emi Tade to increase the lead.
Standings and next round
The title favorites and tournament leader maintain their unbeaten record and have practically secured a playoff spot, facing Tahiti United in the next round. Meanwhile, bottom-placed Hekari United hosts Vanuatu United; their playoff chances still exist, as they are only 3 points away from the relegation zone, but they haven't been playing at a level that inspires confidence to dream of qualifying.
