South Melbourne entered the game as favorites, but such a large advantage against a team that has already been continental champion in Oceania was not expected.

Giannakopoulos opened the scoring after just 3 minutes, clearly destabilizing the Papua New Guinea defense, who finished the first half with a 3-0 lead.

The second half wasn't much different, except there were fewer goals: 2, with one coming in the 57th minute when Swibel ended any chance of a Hekari United comeback.

South Melbourne continues its pursuit of its main title rival and favorite Auckland FC, while the biggest disappointment so far in the tournament is the traditional Hekari United, sitting at the bottom of the table, but still with a chance to fight for a playoff spot.
