First Half
The first half began with the Solomon Islands interim coach, Jerry Allen, under pressure to secure their first victory in the tournament – the only team yet to win – but early in the game, at 13 minutes, Japanese player Higashide opened the scoring for the Solomon Kings, ending the first half with a goal.
Second Half
The second half began with a lightning-fast goal from Solomon Islands national team player Junior David, making it 2-0 in the 50th minute and increasing the terror for the Papua New Guinea team. After that, it was a matter of managing the victory, which was threatened when, in the 77th minute, young Joseph Joe pulled one back to make it 1-2, and almost managed to equalize.
Standings and next round
The Solomon Islands team is now third in the table, ahead even of New Zealand's South Island United, and faces Vanuatu United on the 25th, while PNG Hekari seeks its first victory in the tournament against Bula FC, also on the 25th.
