First Half
The first half was filled with determination and hunger from the Solomon Islands team, seeking victory to enter the playoff zone, while the New Zealanders were thinking and focusing on their later A-League game against Sydney FC. However, they were met with a goal at the end of the first half from Japanese player Higashide from a penalty, and in stoppage time, the promising Bobby Leslie scored the second.
Second Half
Somewhat stunned, Auckland FC started the second half conceding a third goal, this time to Australian Lofthouse in the 55th minute. They spent almost the entire second half chasing the deficit, and managed a late goal through Gillion, but it was too late and they lost their unbeaten record.
