First Half

Mark Miligan's team started the game with a 4-point lead over the New Zealand team, and with the luxury of being able to lose even a loss and still lose the tournament lead. It was at the 15-minute mark that the game's MVP entered the scene; Englishman Cosgrove opened the scoring, putting Steve Corica's team ahead. However, it didn't last long, as at almost 30 minutes, Clayton Taylor equalized for the Australians, thus ending the first half.

Second Half

With an assist from New Zealand international Frank de Vries, England's Cosgrove put Auckland back in the lead, giving them a chance to take the top spot as they are now just one point behind the leaders. Newcastle Jets made substitutions, with Mizunuma replacing Rose, but they didn't have much of an effect. Steve Corica's team emerged victorious, securing an away win against the league leaders.

Standings and next round

The tournament leaders are still 1 point ahead of Auckland FC. Now, the Australian team faces Sydney FC away from home on the 22nd, while the runners-up face Macarthur at home on the 20th.
