First Half
The first half began with the Macarthur team desperately needing a win to keep their playoff qualification hopes alive, and just 11 minutes in, Mexican Durán opened the scoring for the Bulls. The New Zealand team tried to apply pressure for the remainder of the first half, attempting to corner their opponents, but in the dying moments of the first half, Ushok increased the score for the Australians.
Second Half
Steve Corica came out of the break spitting fire and not tolerating any more poor performances, and immediately took off 3 players at once, bringing on Vicelich, Brook and the Belgian Verstraete. With no change to the score, he made another substitution, bringing on Bidois for Rogerson, and continued to put pressure on the Bulls. In the 77th minute, he brought on Jake Brimmer, but it was defender Girdwood who pulled one back in stoppage time, not preventing Auckland FC from losing at home.
Standings and next round
Now 4 points behind league leaders Newcastle Jets, Auckland FC return to action after the international break, on April 3rd, away against Adelaide United, while Macarthur, now in the playoff zone, face Newcastle Jets on April 2nd, playing at home.
