First Half
Aurelio Vidmar's team entered the match needing a win to secure a qualifying spot, while simultaneously focusing on the AFC Champions League Elite, their priority for the season in order to reach the FIFA Intercontinental Cup. Their performance had dropped significantly since winning the Australian title, and Rogerson opened the scoring for the home side at the end of the first half.
Second Half
Early in the second half, Jesse Randall extended the lead for the home side, and in the 61st minute, Cosgrove had a goal disallowed by VAR, potentially making things worse for the Australians. However, in the 67th minute, Uruguayan Guillermo May, who had already provided the assist for the first goal, sealed the 3-0 victory.
