First Half
The first half saw Steve Corica's team applying pressure and seeking victory, and just 20 minutes in, Englishman Sam Cosgrove opened the scoring to the delight of the fans at the Go Media Stadium. At the end of the first half, Uruguayan Guillermo May left injured, replaced by Brooks.
Second Half
Ufuk Talay returned in the second half with Joe Lolley, looking to impose themselves offensively on the game. In the 69th minute, another injury struck Australia FC: New Zealand national team striker Logan Rogerson left injured, replaced by François. There was even a glimpse of pressure from the Australian team at the end of the game, but it wasn't enough for a draw.
Standings and next round
The New Zealand team remains in sole possession of the lead and will face Sydney FC away from home on February 17th, while the Australian team, seeking a spot in the AFC Champions League, currently held by Newcastle Jets, plays at home on February 14th against Adelaide United.
