Scott Hales' team delivered a solid performance throughout the 90 minutes and ultimately secured the victory.

Playing away from home and looking to close the gap on league leaders Wellington Olympic, Western Springs entered the match as slight favorites.

To understand the value of this performance, it's important to provide context. The English coach's team conceded an own goal just 2 minutes into the game and also had an opposing player sent off in the 26th minute of the first half.

Despite the reservations, the first half was very eventful, with an early own goal for the Springs, but Rangers equalized in the 18th minute through Owen Smith. However, Bobadilla's sending off in the 26th minute put Herbert's chances in jeopardy.

In the second half, the game was more controlled by the Springs, and with an extra player, they managed to control it with Makimoto and Hanley, and penetrate the Rangers' area at the right moment with the young 19-year-old McGavin.

The Western Springs team seems to have entered the fight for the championship lead, while the Miramar Rangers remain in the middle of the table and are not considered favorites for the grand final.
