In matches between the bottom-ranked teams in the tournament, Phoenix's reserves came out on top.

The team managed by Robbie Stanton has had a terrible tournament and wasn't considered the favorite for the game; a draw would have been a good result.

A lukewarm and balanced first half in Wellington set the tone for the first stage.

The second half was a bit more exciting, with both teams searching for the winning goal. In the 74th minute, the reserve team missed a penalty that would have given them the victory at that point, but the team didn't give up and less than 10 minutes later, young Flowerdew scored the winning goal.

Both teams are expected to struggle at the bottom of the table, with Phoenix's reserves having slightly higher expectations of moving up to the mid-table positions.
