First Half
Pago Youth, the most traditional team in continental tournaments in American Samoa, traveled to face the host team Vaivase-Tai, hoping for foreign players like De Leeuw, Kerewi, and Samoan national team player Setefano. However, it was young Itamua who was sent off after just 24 minutes, making things difficult for Pago Youth. The Samoan team, playing at home, did manage to apply some pressure, but the first half ended.
Second Half
The second half began with great excitement when Roland Scanlan, brother of Paul Scanlan, a rugby player for the Samoa national team who competed in the last Olympic Games in Paris 2024, opened the scoring for the home team. However, the fans' joy didn't last long when Johnica Collins, the all-time leading scorer in the history of the American Samoa league, equalized, bringing the visitors back into the game. After the equalizer, they closed ranks in a low block and held onto the historic result until the end of the match.
Standings and next round
The home team now faces Cook Islands league leaders Tupapa Maraerenga in the second round, while Pago Youth takes on bottom-placed Nukuhetulu in their next match.
